TRIER, Germany — Ethiopian athletics legend Haile Gebrselassie won the Trier Corrida here on Thursday as he warms up for next month's Dubai Marathon.
The 36-year-old two-time 10,000metres Olympic champion won the 8 kilometres event in a time of 22minutes 22.seconds, 19 seconds outside the race record set in 1996 by Kenyan Peter Githuka.
Gebrselassie beat home Kenyan duo Shadrack Lagat (22:47) and Paul Kipkorir (23:18).
The Ethiopian hopes to improve in Dubai on January 22 his marathon world best of 2hrs 3min 59sec set in Berlin in September 2008.
