Members of the leaderships of Unity for Democracy and Justice Party (UDJ) have expressed different political opinions following the unsuccessful meeting which was supposed to be held here on Sunday at the Imperial Hotel.
Member and Executive and Public Relations Head Dr. Hailu Araya said his party was unable to conduct its general assembly because of illegal acts of certain members of the party.
Members of the UDP who were approached by ENA said they have held a by-election of the party members out of the hotel.
Other leaders and members of the party like Prof. Mesfin Wolde-mariam and Anteneh Masresha on their part said the people who came to the meeting were non-members of the UDJ who were bought by money.
They said according to statute of the party, members of the party have to be elected in a general assembly which is conducted every three years even if the need arises. However, a dictators group led by Dr. Hailu and Engineer Gizachew Shieferaw has called the general assembly in less than two years which said was contrary to the statute.
Seye Abrha who is said to have joined UDJ recently said on his part he was no part of such game.
The other group presided over by Anteneh and Prof. Mesfin chanted slogans- "We will not give our party to dictators"- while Seye and Dr. Negaso Gidada were heading out of the hotel.
The general assembly of the UDJ was not conducted as scheduled.
Members of the UDP were caught by a camera while attempting to beat journalists assigned to cover the general assembly of the UDJ.
