114th anniversary of victory of Battle of Adwa celebrated

The 114th anniversary of the victory of the Battle of Adwa Addis Ababa, (ENA) The 114th anniversary of the victory of the Battle of Adwa was celebrated here on Tuesday. The event is celebrated annually as the Ethiopian army led by Emperor Menelik II defeated the Italian army at the Battle of Adwa in 1896.

Speaker of the House of Peoples' Representatives Ambassador Teshome Toga on the occasion said the youth should be committed towards development of the country while celebrating the victory of Adwa, which indicates affection of ancient Ethiopians for their country.

Ambassador Teshome said the present generation should strive to extricate the country from poverty and backwardness as the ancient Ethiopians safeguarded sovereignty of the country.

The speaker said the youth should also implement various development policies and strategies put in place by the government to make sustainable the successive economic growth being registered in the country.

Ambassador Teshome on the occasion called on the youth to contribute share in the ongoing efforts to make the upcoming national elections fair, democratic, peaceful and credible.

Ethiopian Patriots' National Association President, Astatke Abate on his part said the youth should gain victory over the fight against poverty.

The president said youth and the public at large are responsible towards success of the upcoming national election.

Adwa is located in the northern part of Ethiopia.
